The Double Standard

Brady Quinn is gone, and the backlash is hilarious to me.

He has the same faults as Derek Anderson. He's woefully inaccurate, with a weaker arm and an even worse deep ball. Yet Brady's Brats still are complaining that he's no longer on the team.

Folks, he is the backup to Kyle Orton in Denver. KYLE FREAKING ORTON. Orton isn't any good, and he's ahead of Captain Checkdown on the depth chart. He is NOT nor ever will be accurate. To succeed in the NFL, you must first and foremost be accurate.

There's a reason why I get so frustrated. Derek Anderson was never "my boy," but the way he was treated by a certain faction of Browns Fan was atrocious. It was the biggest double standard in all of Cleveland.

-Quinn misses an open receiver, it's not Quinn's fault...the receiver must have ran a poor route! Quinn must have no help!
-DA makes the SAME mistake, and fans want to crucify him. You'd swear DA shot your dog based on the response he gets, while Quinn got a free pass. It made me sick.

But now they're both gone. This will be the last I talk about the nightmare known as Quinn vs. DA. But I have to give parting shots to the ignorant fanbase that blindly cheered on Quinn while crucifying DA.

Twitter friend @Dennymayo says it best on the awesome blog WaitingForNextYear: "Lest we all forget, Brady Quinn’s stare has been known to drive grown men to question a lifetime’s personal preference in life partners. [I say this based on anecdotal evidence and in no way am speaking from personal experience]."

While this is obviously a joking comment, the fact is that many a Browns fan has a giant crush on the Golden Boy. Just because Quinn's stare supposedly does that, it does NOT make him a good QB, nor will it ever...so PLEASE stop crying over spilled milk and just let it go, Browns Fan.

  1. To be fair, you can't expect McDaniels to name him the starter over Orton just 24 hours after the trade. Orton played well last year. Quinn obviously did not. NFL Network had a side-by-side comparison of their career stats up on Total Access tonight. Orton blows Quinn away in every category. I sense Quinn will challenge Orton for the starting job but Orton will be the starter in September. Lest we forget, Quinn barely beat out DA in a five month long battle here last offseason. That and Holmgren's decision speaks volumes.

  2. That's not so much it. People were happy to see DA gone but are crying foul that Quinn was traded. I just don't understand why unless they just admit that DA and Quinn were held to different standards.
